Kasper & Associates Market Update

35 Years

In 1984, while federal politicians and national media folks continued a decade old prediction of a global cooling catastrophe (sound familiar to global warming?), Kasper & Associates was launched.

During the Winter of K&A’s first year, my son Layne (who is now Managing Partner) and I walked across a thickly frozen Trinity River in Fort Worth near the spot where the Woodshed Smokehouse is located.  I suppose we were verifying the “Ice Age” prediction.  Fortunately we survived the “End Time” scenario.

Soon after K&A’s launch, several Key Principles for our business were promulgated to serve as guiding tenets we could bank on to achieve Abundant Success.  These principles which follow have had a positive impact on our business for the past 35 years and will into the future.

ABUNDANT SUCCESS PRINCIPLES

  • A genuinely sound business principle will apply anywhere in life – in your friendships, in your marriage, anywhere.  Not only will it simply improve your financial Balance Sheet, but it will also improve your “life” Balance Sheet.
  • The first questions for your product or service should be, “Does it serve?” and “Does it add value to others?”  If the answer to these questions is “Yes”, then you can ask, “Does it make money?”  Exceed people’s expectations, they’ll pay you even more.  However, the point isn’t to have them pay more, it’s to give them more.
  • When you base your relationships – in business or anywhere else in your life – on who owes you what, that’s not being a friend. It’s being a creditor.  Watch out for the other person.  Watch out for his/her interests.
  • Everyone likes to be appreciated.  Folks prefer doing business with and referring business to those individuals they know, like and trust.
  • It’s not better to give than to receive.  Receiving is the natural result of giving.
  • Look for the best in people and you’ll be amazed at how much talent, ingenuity, empathy and goodwill you’ll find.
  • For you to reach any goal you set it takes 10 percent specific knowledge or technical skills.  The other 90 percent is people skills which will show you care about people and are passionate about what you do.  People skills show you enjoy talking with folks, asking them questions, learning all you can about them and finding ways you can help them fill a need.
  • There is primarily one reason for my wife, Janet, and I having longevity (50+ years) in our marriage.  That reason is this: I care more about Janet’s happiness than I do about my own.  All I ever wanted to do since the day I met her is make her happy.  Here’s what is remarkable – she wants the same thing for me.
